The Road to November Runs Through August
This Friday, August 28, thousands will board buses headed to Washington, D.C. for a march organized by the National Action Network and NAACP chapters nationwide — timed just months ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The march follows the League of Women Voters' "Unite & Rise for Voting Rights" Day of Action on August 8, which coordinated over 350 events across all 50 states — the largest voting-rights mobilization ahead of this year's midterms. Faith leaders representing 1,500+ congregations have also held coordinated nonpartisan events urging officials to protect ballot access. Organizers point to recent court rulings that narrowed federal voting protections as part of what's driving the renewed grassroots push.
What's notable isn't just the scale — it's the shift in strategy. Groups are moving beyond litigation toward direct voter education, community organizing, and a simple ask: "Me plus five" — get five people in your circle to a voting plan.
